New York City Pre-College Fiction Writing Workshop
An

and polishing the work of highly motivated young writers.
The
two-hour workshop meets twice each month from October through May. Sessions
are led by nationally known teacher-writer-editor Robert Rue.

Members
of the workshop must be committed to the schedule, appearing at each session
with the assignment completed, having read the work of others, and having
prepared thoughtful critiques.
Admission:
Please
send an email to info@robertrue.net.
Attach a sample of your fiction writing and include a phone number at
which your parent(s) can be reached. Please also describe briefly your
interest in the workshop. (How long have you been writing stories? Have
you ever participated in a fiction writing workshop before? What writers
do you admire?) If you are a candidate for the workshop, I will schedule
an interview with you and your parent(s).
Cost:
$2,400.
One payment of $1,200 is due on October 1. The second payment is due on

Testimonials:
| "Robert
Rue is a seriously gifted writer who works with such exacting attention
to language that his characters become real, hauntingly so. In a workshop,
he gives a gentle, yet direct and accurate critique. He has become
someone I trust deeply for criticism of my own work." |

| "Through
sheer good luck, I had Bobby Rue as a teacher for all four years of
high school. Many teachers at that level are strict about students'
behavior and lackadaisical about their learning, but he was the reverse:
unflappable in the face of typical teen shock tactics and fanatically
rigorous about precise diction and imaginative thinking. He treated
all of his students as intellectuals, respecting their ideas and challenging
them to write well in their own voices. I am a clearer and more original
writer because of his teaching; no other teacher I had influenced
me as much." |

| "Bobby
Rue is a natural and gifted teacher and writer, an amazing, rare combination
of talents. As a man who inspired our students for fifteen years,
he has established himself as one of the best fiction writing teachers
in the country. In addition to his talents as a teacher and writer,
he is a tremendous role model and mentor for young people." |

| "I
still remember Bobby Rue's probing, patient questions about literature
that expanded my mind and enabled me to reach my own conclusions.
He was an outstanding and beloved teacher who brought insight and
humor to the classroom." |
